The Ninja acted as the alternative to a bloody war with Samurai between feuding Shoguns & Daiymos. The Ninja were hired mercenaries or Buddhist monks who were loyal to a certain Warlord. They became a highly effective method of assassinating rival shoguns. The Ninja were trained in stealth and speed, because the couldn't fight the well trained samurai head - on.
